Our travels through Vietnam over a number of years were inspired by coalition of the French influenced architecture with the Vietnamese cuisine. The French occupied Vietnam from 1883 to 1954. We noticed this hadn't been captured in Melbourne so we decided to open a restaurant called Madam Viet.
We feel the name represents the combination of French and Vietnamese. Madam, French for unmarried woman, Viet meaning nationalism and resistance to foreign domination.
The food, predominately Asian, has French influence. Our local artist, Eddie Balic has combined with the owners to create a masterpiece in the bar area. The venue has pressed metal ceiling, ornate fire place and other French inspired pieces combined with Vietnamese décor. Our wines have been specifically picked and paired to the dishes by our wine sommelier. Welcome and enjoy!
